HI! I’m Serena
I’m so glad you found me! I guess you’re wondering a little bit about me, huh? Well, I am a teen from the Texas Hill Country.
The summer I turned 17 I started a tallow skincare business as an extension of our family’s cattle business.
Since then, I have been able to serve hundreds of customers throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond.

FAQ
What is tallow?
Our tallow is made from beef fat. Suet is a special kind of fat from cows. Are you thinking of that steak you had last week? Well, that is not the kind of fat tallow comes from. Suet is a special kind of fat that comes from around the internal organs of ruminant animals. Weird right? Well, wait until you hear the benefits! ↓
What is tallow good for?
Tallow is good for acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, thin skin, wrinkles, and more!
How do you use tallow skincare?
Great question! The most important part of your tallow skincare runtime is to make it your own. A little tallow skincare goes a long way! I would recommend using a small amount of tallow skincare and spreading it on your face morning and night. Spread tallow skincare on your body as needed. Adjust to find your perfect balance!
Is tallow balm good for psoriasis?
Yes! If you struggle with psoriasis, tallow can help you! The compatibility with our skin, 100% natural makeup, and deeply moisturizing properties of tallow make it a perfect choice for helping psoriasis.
Is tallow greasy?
No! The chemical profile of tallow is similar to our skin oils, making it a non-greasy moisturizer. You have probably experienced greasy plant-based moisturizers. Yuck! I don’t know about you, but I don’t like my face to be greasy. That is where tallow, the non-greasy option, comes in. Here is how I like to think about it: “How much more similar am I to a cow than a coconut?”
What is the difference between tallow and suet?
Tallow is purified suet. When you get the suet from the cow, it can have impurities. To make sure that tallow is pure, the suet goes through a process known as rendering. Rendering is the process of melting and purifying the tallow.
Do you use the wet or dry rendering method?
Areté Tallow uses a combination of wet and dry rendering. When we render our suet, we melt the suet with water and salt (to draw out impurities)—the wet method. This process is then repeated several times until the suet is clean. Then, the suet is dry rendered to remove all of the water. Violà!
Is your suet grass-fed and grass-finished?
Yes! All of our products are made with exclusively grass-fed and grass-finished tallow (from suet). In grass-fed and grass-finished tallow, the benefits (omega fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins, etc.) are more concentrated.
Does your tallow come from suet?
Absolutely! All of our products are made exclusively with tallow from suet. Suet is more concentrated in fat-soluble vitamins, omega fatty acids, etc. than fat from the rest of the cow. The quality of suet is superior to other fats and is more beneficial for our skin.
What does Areté mean?
“Areté” means excellence in Greek. Not just any excellence though! Areté particularly means “realizing one's full potential” and moral excellence. Though areté specifically means moral virtue, it also means excellence in general.
Is tallow OK for acne?
Yes! Tallow is great for acne! Acne can often lead to weak skin from poking, prodding, and hoping. That is where tallow shines for acne. I can strengthen skin, help it heal, and give it the nutrients it needs. Due to tallow’s low comedogenic rating, it will not clog pores or cause issues for those with acne!
Is tallow balm good for Eczema (and baby eczema)?
Yes! Tallow is wonderful for eczema! Eczema often leads to dry, irritated, and inflamed skin. Tallow helps moisturize, soothe, and reduce inflammation! Our tallow moisturizer is safe for even the most sensitive eczema—even baby eczema!
Can tallow balm help with wrinkles?
Tallow is great for wrinkles! Tallow contains vitamin A, which promotes collagen production and reduces wrinkles. Wrinkles are often caused when the skin doesn’t have enough hydration. Tallow is one of the deepest hydrators out there! Tallow is perfect for reducing fine lines, neck wrinkles, saggy skin, and every other kind of wrinkle!
So you want to know where the tallow comes from?
Fair enough! I source as much of Areté Tallow’s suet as I can from our very own cows. “Wait. You mean you raise your own cattle, too?!?” Dear reader, that’s right!
We raise grass-fed cattle, which either live on our Lampasas farm or Goldthwaite ranch.
All of our cattle are grass-fed, the wat it was meant to be.
Are you wondering where we get our cows?
Alright, I’ll tell you. We get our cows from our family, who own and operate an Angus cattle breeding business. Pretty cool, right? I thought so too 😊.
Our cows have the highest living quality and are raised with love. (We name most of them 😍).
The Cows
Ok, now that we have established that our cows are grass-fed, what does that have to do with the suet?
Well, when cattle are raised grass-fed, as they were meant to be, they are healthier.
That means the suet is richer in vitamins, omega fatty acids, etc, and that means the tallow is better for you. All this means your skin is healing better, faster, and deeper. That’s good (in case you didn’t know 😁).
I’ll bet you’re wondering where I source the rest of the suet.
Well, I source any suet that my family doesn’t personally raise from Texas grass-fed, grass-finished cattle ranchers. Local and high quality. Sweet and simple.
I personally know where all of my tallow comes from, and I make sure it is of the highest quality.
